Well, guess better late than never. Y'all, I have been so busy with my real estate business and getting ready to leave for vacation - I just have not had time to do Kelly's Korner "Show Us Your Home" post but.....my game room is so dang cute - I just had to find the time this morning!!! We bought this house for 2 reasons - the HUGE game room upstairs (which got smaller as we kept adding things to it!!) and my Princess Room which I posted a few weeks ago! (you can see a tiny peek of the Princess Room in one of the pictures below!)
Our children did not have grandparents that were very involved in their lives. I don't remember my kids ever spending the night at my parents (they were divorced) and they spent very few nights with Robin's mom (his parents were divorced too). So we made a vow to each other and to God many, many years ago that if we were blessed with grandchildren (and we have been BLESSED!!) that we wanted to be fun, interactive grandparents and not only "love" but "love-on" our grandbabies! So for years, we have been planning this room. Many of the things were bought several years ago and put in storage waiting for the special home to put them in!!! So now let me show you our.....
MARLER GRANDCHILDREN GAMEROOM!
This is the view of our gameroom at the top of the stairs. You can see a peek of our Princess Room!! Now I'll take you "up close and personal"!!
We designed this Locker Entertainment Center in our heads! We found ugly gray lockers at Warrenton several years ago. This was actually one large set of 4 "stacks" all hooked together. These lockers sat in our storage building for several years...but they were always "alive" in my head! Nifty hubby took apart the one big unit and made it into two separate units. He then made the shelves holding the tv, dvd, wii out of something metal. I didn't ask what it was - I just told him what I wanted. My son Dustin, then painted them red (just spray paint folks!). Make sure you do this in a far-away outside empty area with NO wind blowing are you could end up with a red car or red house!! ha! I still want hubs to put one more shelf under the tv. I actually have 8 red baskets under it and another shelf will allow me to unstack them and use them all.
Here's the view if you are standing at the lockers. This sofa used to be a greenish-tan. I had it recovered in different fabrics of reds and black/white. I LOVE it!! So comfy! I bought the chair and ottoman on the left from a garage sale for $50!! Had those recovered at the same time. I love the fabric that the ottoman is covered in!! See the air hockey game behind the chair. We snagged this (brand new in box) from Academy at an "after-Christmas" sale several years ago for $100 - yep, you heard me right!! It's also been in storage (in our daughter's garage - thanks Conn & Ash!!) for the last year. Course, if hubby would have known how heavy it was carrying it up our stairs - he might have never bought it. It took 4 men to carry the box upstairs!!! The cute stars came from Warrenton too! I just bought the All-Star sign yesterday at Kirklands for $14.99!!! Made - er, I mean asked hubby to hang it this morning for the pics! The sweet little antique table and chairs came from a local antique store. We used this in our "interim" apt to eat on. Now it's used as a board game/puzzle table.
Here's another area I've had planned for years. This is my sweet babies "Art Table" and "Show-Off" bulletin boards! I bought this little table and chairs at another huge huge garage sale (the kind that takes up an entire parking lot). It was a little pricey for my cheap tastes (I think $175) - but it is the really heavy oak that pre-schools/church nurseries used to have way back in the day. And besides that....I wanted it really really bad! I bought the bulletin boards at Hobby Lobby (didn't think you were going to get through this post without old HL did you??!!). I painted them different colors and hot glued their names on each one. This is where they display all their art work!!! They LOVE coloring up here. The ones that are empty are the youngest grandbabies that are not into coloring yet. But one of my grandchildren LOVES artwork - can you guess which one???? Hint - Cole is always up here coloring and also notice how straight his artwork is displayed. He is VERY picky about this! He's also been very concerned for a long time that the "L" is missing from his name! I gotta fix that when I have time!!!!
Just another view!
See this chair....we pulled it out of a trash pile! Yep, and believe me - it was NASTY. Hubby was VERY upset with me for BEGGING him to take this home! It sat in our storage barn for about 2 yrs. And he was even more mad about that. I don't know if he allowed me to keep it because he just trusted my "vision" for it or if he didn't want to have THAT discussion again. Then we finally pulled it out of the barn and recovered it ourselves when we redecorated our old farmhouse. Our kids loved it during their college days. I think lots of snuggling went on in this chair! Then we re-re-covered it again when we re-re-decorated our living room - again. This chair has been around!! And this picture does not really do it justice - cause it is HUGE!!! Robin wanted to get rid of it AGAIN when we moved into our new home and I just simply refused. Don't know why cause I rarely even sit in it. Maybe I just know it's special because it used to be so ugly and filthy and I made it cute and cuddly and saved it's life!! Oh yeah, the rug came from Lowe's.

We bought this cute sign at an antique store in Leakey, TX. I bought it mainly because it's advertising "Old Pap's Crawdad Hole". Robin is Pappy to the grandbabies (and his dad was Pap) and we do love us some crawfish!!! We're from Louisiana y'all!!
I saved the best for last!! This sign looks like just an old ordinary sign to most people. But for me it is infused with many emotional feelings. Well, first of all, my sweet sweet hubby, Robin made it. We had been looking far and wide for an old feed store sign and couldn't find one. I'm so glad we couldn't. My handy hubby then decided to build it himself. The 2nd thing that makes this sign so special is that it is built out of 100 yr old wood that was removed off of our old 100 yr old farmhouse that we so lovingly (with lots of blood, sweat, and tears!!) restored and raised our children in for 17 yrs. Robin saved all the wood when he had to remove any and used it all to build other things. The 3rd thing that makes it so special is that it was the "therapy" that Robin used to "get-over" giving his daughter away to her husband. You see, most people that are emotionally exhausted after such an event may lie on the couch and just rest (that was me!!). Instead, Robin is wired differently than most anyone I know. He has to get involved in another project for his therapy! Within 2 wks of a back-breaking wedding he was out in his barn building this. I could NOT understand this at the time - but now I do. When I look at it I am always reminded of a daddy's love for his baby girl and what he did very slowly (and creatively - he designed the whole thing himself!!) to recover. Okay, enough of that emotion **sniff sniff* ....the next thing that makes this sign so special is the Rosehill, TX part. You see, we always lived in Tomball, TX but our home was actually in a community named Rosehill. We always joked that we loved the name Rosehill and did not love the name Tomball. We wished that our mailing address was Rosehill instead of Tomball. So there is really no Rosehill, TX except in our hearts and on this SIGN! The very last thing that is so special is the "EST. 1972". That of course is the year we were married - 37 yrs ago!! And I still love that same man more than ever before!! Thank you babe for all the memories in this one feed store sign! Who'da ever thought!!!
Love, Mammy
